An emergency information panel (EIP) is a placard that displays warning and emergency information about dangerous goods (refer to ADG7, Vol 2, Part 5.3.2, p. 431). This is commonly found on tank vehicles transporting dangerous substances, such as LPG and petrol tankers.

Placarding with an EIP is mandatory when transporting a "placard load" of dangerous goods. A placard load is defined as:

  • Dangerous goods in a receptacle with a capacity exceeding 500 litres;
  • More than 500 kilograms of dangerous goods in a receptacle;
  • A cumulative quantity of dangerous goods totalling 250 kilograms and/or litres or more, excluding aerosols of Division 2.1;
  • Dangerous goods of Division 2.3;
  • Dangerous goods of Packing Group 1;
  • A cumulative quantity of dangerous goods totalling 1000 kilograms and/or litres or more.
